Letterkenny Marching Band Competition
On the 27th August the K&S Marching Band competed in Letterkenny. They were
placed second in this competition. |
| Summer 2006 |
Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Marching Band Competitions
During the summer months of this year the K&S marching band was busy practicing
for the Ceomhtlas Ceoltoiri Eireann Marching Band Competitions. These began
in May with the Meath Fleadh in Oldcastle. The Leinster Fleadh followed
in July in Carlow. The marching band won both of these competitions. A busy
schedule of practicing ensued in August for the All Ireland Fleadh in Letterkenny. |

Trip To Prague, Czech Republic
In April the K&S Accordion Orchestra embarked on a seven day trip to Prague
to compete in the European Accordion Championships. 53 members flew to Prague
to compete in the Championships.
After two days of stiff competition the K&S travelled to Marianske Lazne
a scenic town in Prague and combined with the Shopin orchestra to perform
at a concert which was attended by a large crowd. The fun activities of
the trip consisted of boat trip and sightseeing tours of Prague. |

Kells Competition - Headfort Arms, Kells, Co. Meath
The K & S Senior Orchestra were placed 2nd place in the Kells Competition.
The Junior Orchestra also won their section. |

I.A.A. Competition Moate
History was created in April at the I.A.A. All Ireland Championships in
Moate, when the K & S Accordion Orchestra won the Senior All Ireland Concert
Orchestra title for the fourth consecutive year.
Under the musical direction of Gerry Kelly, the K & S Senior orchestra’s
rendition of Dalmation Dance by Adolf Goth and Divertimento by Franz Dobler
was warmly appreciated by the audience and highly praised by the judge.
In addition to the Senior Orchestra’s win the Preparatory Orchestra were
placed second in their section.Many members of both orchestras won medals
in solo, duets and ensemble competitions. |

K & S Accordion Orchestra plays Walterstown Pavillion
The end of March and beginning of April saw vigorous practicing for the
European Championships in Prague and the forthcoming All Ireland Concert
Championships in Moate. A Concert was held in Walterstown Pavillion for
parents of band members and the local community to hear the orchestra’s
new music which was prepared for the All Ireland and the European Accordion
Championships. A large crowd attended the concert and the night was enjoyed
by all. |

St. Patrick's Day Parades
For St. Patricks Day the K&S Marching band were invited to numerous parades
but the band decided to attend the local parades in Athboy, Bailieboro and
Navan. This weekend came to a close with a parade in Delvin. |

K & S Fundraiser Raffle
The start of 2006 proved to be a busy year for the K&S Committee as news
emerged that the K&S would partake in the European Championships in Prague
in April. To fund this trip a monster raffle was organised. First Prize
of a holiday to Spain was won by Peter Byrne, Johnstown Navan, second prize,
a 32 inch TV by Colman Burke Johnstown and third prize a Laptop by Anne
Lynch, Kentstown. A total of ten prizes were raffled. |

Children's Christmas Party
The year ended for the K&S with their annual Christmas party in Kentstown
Hall. This was a special evening as the Sinead Ledwidge Memorial Shield
was presented by Geraldine and Leo Ledwidge to Suzanne Casey for been a
dedicated and committed band member throughout the year. |

Castletown Accordion Competition - Lakeside Manor Hotel, Cavan
In November 2005 the Senior Orchestra won the Castletown Competition in
the Lakeside Manor Hotel in Cavan. Many individual members participated
at various levels and they too were successful. |
